How to convert Bytes to Bits
Digital storage is measured in bytes, with each step up multiplying by 1,000 in the SI convention used by storage manufacturers and this converter: 1 KB = 1,000 bytes, 1 MB = 1,000 KB, and so on up to petabytes. One byte always equals 8 bits.
All units convert through the bit. Because a byte is 8 bits, 1 MB equals 8,000,000 bits. Note that operating systems sometimes use binary units (KiB, MiB) where each step is 1,024 instead of 1,000.
