What we store

Universal Unit Converter itself uses browser local storage (not traditional cookies) to remember your theme preference, favorite conversions, recent conversions, and cached exchange rates. These entries are functional — the site works without them, but your preferences won't be remembered.

A newsletter address entered in the footer is also saved only in this browser at present. This local entry is not an active email subscription. The converter does not use a local-storage identifier to create a user account or follow your conversions across devices.

Third-party cookies

The site reserves space for third-party advertising. If advertising is enabled (for example via Google AdSense), the ad provider may set cookies to serve, limit, and measure ads, and — where permitted — to personalize them. The currency converter also contacts a public exchange-rate API, which may set its own technical cookies.

A reserved ad space alone does not set an advertising cookie. If outside services are activated, their cookie practices and retention periods are determined by those providers. A browser request to a rate provider can disclose routine connection details even when that provider sets no cookie.

Cookies versus local storage

Cookies are small pieces of data a browser may send with requests to a website. Local storage stays in your browser until the site reads it from a page or you delete it. The saved conversion history and theme described above use local storage; they are not attached to every network request. Both types of storage are generally managed under your browser's site-data settings.

How long preferences remain

Favorites and recent conversions are kept locally until you clear site data, the browser removes them, or the tool replaces older recent entries with newer ones. Cached exchange rates may remain on your device after they become outdated, but the currency page should indicate the date of the data in use. Private browsing sessions may discard these preferences when you close the window.

Managing cookies

You can block or delete cookies and site data at any time through your browser settings. Blocking functional storage will reset your theme and history on each visit but won't stop the converters from working. To control ad personalization specifically, use your advertising provider's ad-settings page.

What happens when storage is disabled

Standard unit calculations can still run without saved browser data. Favorites and recent conversions will not survive a refresh, and the currency converter may need to request rates again rather than use a saved response. If an external rate service is unavailable at that moment, check the status of the displayed rate before using it for a decision.
